JuJu Bee is O-N-E!
By now this sweet little one is a very familiar face, I do sessions for this family almost every month and I just adore being able to watch them grow!
When it came time to plan her special 1st birthday session, it had to be special. Her nursery is decorated in bees and she has bee toys, clothes, costumes, and her first birthday was to have a bee theme so it was pretty obvious that her shoot would have to be bee oriented!
How do you do a bee-themed session? You pretty much brainstorm for weeks and then it hits you like a brick – HONEY!!!!!!
And so that’s what I did, a super sweet honey theme.

When I am commissioned to do an engagement session, my goal is to create a session that is sweet, endearing, and a little steamy. I want to showcase the love and bond between a couple. Those little looks, the in between moments, the sassiness, sweetness, and more!
Instead of my usual of planning a session around a single item or idea, this session was planned around a location. I went to look at this beautiful location which also happens to be where M + J live! (Yep, I am jealous too!)
When I saw the clearing, I just knew. We had to do a picnic. It was the perfect setting and so I went from there.
I grabbed my favorite tablecloth, picnic basket, and my go-to wooden boxes and added in some picnic favs – flowers, root beer, breads, and other fun little details to build the scene.
This shoot is of two little girls who became fast friends the moment that they met. We had loads of fun doing this session! So often I get asked how I came up with the idea for a session so I thought it would be a wonderful idea to share how the creation came about! Hope you love this idea too! (Forgive my lack of awesomeness in my writing, I am sooooo not a writer so hopefully my photos will make up for having to endure that!) Oh and you will also notice that I am slightly ADD (my oldest daughter was lucky enough for this trait to be passed onto her too… but I blame her dad because clearly I. Am. Awesome.)
This session was inspired by a simple vision – I love the look of eggs, so fresh, so organic! And anyone that knows me knows that I love doing little “stand” sessions. This is a twist on the ever-popular lemonade stand! I have a ton of future plans for new spins on different stand ideas that I will be sharing in the future too! (yeah, ok going off topic, told ya it would happen) SOOOOO the egg stand – I really just wanted something that felt organic with a nod to my father’s farming heritage. I started with the eggs in a mix of brown and white and added in a bench that has a nice rustic feel and then just grabbed some little details from there. It turned out to be one of my favorite recent shoots!
With the Holidays fast approaching and my imagination swirling with session ideas and themes I have been thinking a lot lately.I have been thinking about my own life, my family, my children. I want my girls to learn and experience the joy of giving to others. Through my business I donate to many different charities each year. This year I want to do more. I want my children to think about others. I want EVERYONE to think about others. So I have been searching for the perfect charity to partner with this special holiday season and BAM it hit me. CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!! And so I knew instantly that I needed to join forces with the West Volusia TOYS for TOTS!
I contacted our area coordinators and they were as thrilled as I was. I met with them today and I just can’t wait to jump in and give, give, give and I hope you all will feel the same way too!

AND for those that schedule a Holiday Mini Session we will give a $10 discount if you bring a new and unwrapped toy to your session to donate to West Volusia Toys for Tots!
